$2.3 Million In Auto Theft Prevention Grants Awarded


TALLAHASSEE -- Attorney General Bob Butterworth today announced the awarding of $2,362,671 in grants to 39 sheriffs offices, police departments and other agencies to fund auto theft prevention programs throughout Florida.

The grants were earmarked for a variety of uses, including public education, law enforcement training, the purchase of auto theft prevention equipment and criminal investigation and prosecution.

Of the awards approved by the Florida Motor Vehicle Theft Prevention Authority, 25 were renewals of previously awarded grants and 14 were new grants.

The applicants receiving new grants and the amounts awarded include:
- Boynton Beach Police Department: $7,336
- Charlotte County Sheriff's Office: $19,383
- Clearwater Police Department: $34,669
- Collier County Sheriff's Office: $52,427
- Hollywood Police Department: $18,038
- Jupiter Police Department: $12,550
- Lake Worth Police Department: $165,885
- Metro-Dade Department of Justice Assistance: $59,970
- Miramar Police Department: $48,655
- North Miami Police Department: $13,742
- Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office: $66,122
- Sanford Police Department: $109,758
- Seminole County Sheriff's Office: $58,525
- Tampa Police Department: $94,353

The applicants receiving grant renewals and the amounts awarded include:

- Citizens for Auto Theft Responsibility: $20,500
